Every Dog Needs an Emergency Go Bag

Hey Pack, Kodiak here. 🐾

I have a question.

Have you ever heard your humans say, “Grab the emergency kit!”?

I hadn’t either… until Dad started putting one together.

Apparently humans have these things called earthquakes, wildfires, power outages, floods, and other emergencies.

I thought emergencies were things like running out of treats. Or accidentally dropping your tennis ball behind the couch.

Turns out humans mean something a little bigger.

Dad told me that if we ever had to leave the house quickly, he never wants to be wondering where my food is, where my medicine is, or whether he remembered my favorite toy.

That’s when I realized β€” dogs need emergency kits too.

What’s In My Emergency Kit?

Here’s what Dad packed for me.

πŸ₯£ Food

Enough food for several days. Nobody wants to be hungry during an emergency. Especially me.

πŸ’§ Fresh Water

Dad packed bottled water just for me. Dogs need clean water too, especially if the power is out or the tap water isn’t safe. He also packed my favorite travel water bottle because you never know when you’ll need a drink on the road.

πŸ’Š Medicine

If your dog takes medicine every day, make sure it’s packed and not expired. Your humans should also keep a copy of your medical records and your veterinarian’s phone number.

🩹 Dog First Aid Kit

Dad packed things like:

  • Bandages
  • Gauze
  • Vet wrap
  • Tweezers
  • Saline solution
  • Antiseptic wipes
  • Tick remover
  • Styptic powder
  • Emergency blanket

We actually found a great kit that has almost all of this in one bag β€” the ARCA PET Dog & Cat First Aid Kit. It even comes with a digital thermometer and muzzle. CDP recommended and Kodiak approved. 🐾

Hopefully we’ll never need any of it… but it’s nice knowing it’s there.

🦴 Emergency Treats

This is the most important section.

Dad says they’re for “keeping me calm.”

I say they’re for existing.

Either way, we both agree there should be lots of treats. You never know when you’ll need emergency snacks. Personally, I’d vote for twice as many as Dad packed.

🧸 Something Familiar

Dad also packed one of my favorite toys and my blanket. When everything feels strange, having something that smells like home can help dogs feel safe.

I pretend I’m too tough to care… but I definitely care.

Don’t tell Dash.

πŸ“· Don’t Forget Identification

Make sure your dog’s collar tags are up to date. A recent photo of your dog can also help if you ever become separated.

The Pack sticks together… but it’s always smart to be prepared.

The Pack Rule

Being prepared doesn’t mean you’re expecting something bad to happen. It means you’re ready to protect the ones you love if it does.

That’s what the Cardiff Dog Pack is all about. Looking out for each other. Whether it’s crossing a desert… or getting through an emergency together.

And yes β€” pack extra treats. Trust me on this one.
