Kodiak’s First Blog: What Happened During a Dog Fight at the Beach (Dog Beach Safety Tips)

Blog Content

Kodiak’s First Blog 🐾

“Yeah… apparently I have to do this now.”

My dad said I had to start writing a blog because I keep bugging him when he’s trying to work to take me to the beach.

So now… here we are.

If this blog gets big, just know it started because I wanted more beach time.

Anyway, I guess I’ll tell you about the time I almost got into a fight at the dog beach.

A Perfect Day at the Dog Beach

It was a perfect day.
Sun out. Waves rolling. Tennis balls flying.

I was doing what I do best—swimming, fetching, and casually talking to some ladies.

Then this big American bulldog-looking dude comes walking up to me.

No problem.

I’m a friendly guy.

I said what’s up, gave him a sniff—standard dog greeting. Everything seemed normal.

Then… it got weird.

When Dog Behavior Turns Aggressive

This guy just freezes.

And starts staring me down.

Now listen—if you’re a dog, you already know…
That’s not a friendly move.

So I do what any respectable dog would do…

I stare him down right back.

Dog Fight at the Beach: What Happened

My dad sees this and starts running toward me.

Good instincts.

Because right as he gets there and grabs my collar to pull me away—

This dude goes FULL psycho.

Starts lunging, trying to bite me.

Now let me be clear…

I don’t start fights.

But if you’re gonna try to bite me, I’m biting back.

That’s just how it works.

Next thing I know, my dad scoops me up and starts spinning so the other dog can’t reach me, but this psycho keeps running around jumping and biting at me.

And just so we’re clear…

I’m not a small dog.

People say, “Wow, that’s a big dog.”

I mean… I’m not that big. Those are just small dog people.

Still—holding me up like that? Respect.

When Owners Don’t Control Their Dogs

And what was I doing?

Snapping back at that psycho every time he jumped up.

It was a full scene.

My dad’s spinning, I’m defending, and this dog just keeps coming.

My dad starts yelling:

“Grab your dog!!!”

And the owner…

Some guy in his 20s…

Just standing there.

Frozen.

How the Situation Was Stopped

Luckily, an off-duty firefighter—big dude—steps in.

Grabs the dog by the back of the neck and pulls him away, brings him over to the owner.

Situation handled.

Finally.

No Injuries, But a Big Lesson

No bites landed.

On either of us.

We got out of there and called it a day.

Dog Beach Safety Tips (Kodiak Approved) 🐾

If you’re bringing your dog to an off-leash dog beach or dog park, here’s the deal:

  • Know your dog’s behavior before letting them off leash
  • Watch for warning signs like staring, stiffness, and freezing
  • Stay close and alert—don’t zone out
  • Be ready to step in immediately if something goes wrong
  • If your dog shows aggression, remove them fast

My dad says:

If you’re gonna bring your dog to an off-leash area…
Be ready to grab your dog.

Not every dog is ready for that kind of freedom.

And not every owner is either.

Final Thoughts from Kodiak

Alright…

I need to get to the beach.

That’s my first blog.

Blog at you later.
